I know I haven't written in a long time, but this movie deserves a serious BLOG! Let me start off by saying that this movie scared the SHIT out of me! Sorry to curse, but DAMN!
I HATE horror movies. I am a big ole chicken and try to avoid them if I can, even thought I have seen pretty much all the Jason/Freddie type films. Yea, those movies are scary and gory and give you the heebie jeebies, but no movie has ever scared me as much as Paranormal Activity did. I literally cannot stop thinking about it. I think I am traumatized.....
I love anything to do with the paranormal....ghost hunting etc..., so that is why I thought I'd check out the film, even though a friend told me it almost made her pee her pants. Note to self: Do NOT watch this at home alone, in your dungenous basement. Oh wait! I already did! Big mistake, BIG!
I will not give you any spoilers, but I will tell you WHY THIS IS THE SCARIEST MOVIE EVER! First of all, it's shot documentary style so it definitly feels very real. There are no special effects, no blood and guts, just pure unadulterated horror. It's the worst case scenario about those "bumps in the night" and what's really lurking in the dark.
The film is about a young couple living in the suberbs of San Diego. The girl, Katie, has been haunted her whole life by some kind of entity (a demon) and her boyfriend, Micha, wants to video tape everything to find out what exactly is going on. The more he antagonizes the situation, the worse things get and it's all caught on his video tape.
Sometimes it's the things you cannot see that is more terrifying that what you can and that is what makes this story so chilling. Not only that, but it's more realistic than a vampire, monster, or a man in a mask with a bloody axe.
Honestly...if you're a big skeerdy cat like me, don't watch it...because it's the middle of the day and after seeing that movie, I have been paranoid I'm being watched and am waiting for something bad to happen....ugh. I honestly don't know how I'll sleep tonight now. Seriously. If you LOVE scary movies then I recommend this completely, and if this movie doesn't scare you, then you've got balls of steel my friend!
The trailer doesn't seem so scary, which is why I thought I'd watch the movie...you really will have no idea how scary this is unless you see it honestly. Watch this clip of audience reactions while watching the movie. At first I thought it ,was fake, seriously. I thought they were just trying to get audiences into the theater. WRONG! After watching the movie...I know those are real reactions, very real because I did the same thing! CHECK IT OUT:
I still get cold chills thinking of certain scenes. The visions appear and I get freaked out all over again. Lots of people compare this to Blair Witch and the idea is sort of similar, but I didn't think Blair Witch was all that scary. This movie gave me the creeps, my hair stood on end a few times and I was hiding my face in my hoodie and praying at one point. TERRIFYING!
Usually in a horror film you can laugh at the victim and their stupidity and you generally aren't attatched to the characters, but in this film you are because you feel like you're watching a home movie and you REALLY, REALLY don't want them to venture down the dark hallway and you REALLY, REALLY don't want them to open the door! Bravo to this first time director because I was really believing....and still am, that this shit is possible and that's the most scary thing of all! If you're brave enough....go see it, but take a friend and don't say I didn't warn ya.
Check out another great review below! (p.s. and it's not just chicks who were scared! ha ha)
